Clay Donut Charm - Tutorial by thinkpastel Clay Donut Charm - Tutorial by thinkpastel
An (hopefully) easy tutorial to learn how to make my donut charms :giggle:
As always, I hope you'll enjoy this tutorial as much as I enjoyed making it! Feel free to ask me if there's something not clear :)

On a side note, I've opened my e-shop! It's still empty as I'm trying to figure out how it works (doh!) but hopefully in a few days there'll be some cute products! :boogie:

:heart: More of my stuff

You're very welcome and thank you :giggle: - althought I really cannot take credit for the clay+water idea (I'm not sure who was the first to come up with it - you can find two lovely tutorials about this under the link section on my website :giggle: )

Just a question, wht kind of wire do you use for the hook? Does it have to be 'heat-proof' or anything like that?

thinkpastel Featured By Owner Feb 20, 2011  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
I used standard copper wire here (the one you can buy in any hardware store). I'm pretty sure there's no danger of over heating it, since the temperature you bake p-clay is considerably low.
If you're unsure tho, you can find pre-made jewelry hooks in various materials (from metal alloy to silver and gold!) in craft stores! ;)

Thanks! I actually got a sculpture done over vacation. Even though I promised to do all these other things... haha. I tried making an ice cream cone and it turned out really well, except for this one part so it frustrated me. But it's my New Year's resolution to make more art so I promise to try this sometime in the week. =)

How do you bake them??? ^^;

It really depends on what kind of clay you're using - usually, you have to bake it in a regular oven for 10 to 30 minutes. Each brand of clay has slightly different baking times, and they're usually printed on the clay's package :)

I use Fimo soft, but any kind of polymer clay will do just fine! You can find them in craft stores, or even online :)
